I’ve done some fairly “complete” scrap pieces since the beginning of this year, for those who don’t follow my scraps gallery on my website:
Saturnalia
* Nine x Caret Valentine’s Day pic request. Nine doesn’t seem all that pleased to be forced into the picture.
* Lan (already posted in the last entry)
* Ellipsis (ditto)
Monster
* Cheers! No spoilers.
* Time for that picnic *BIG SPOILER* for end of series
Ace Attorney (a.k.a. Phoenix Wright)
* Phoenix and Iris *SPOILER* for 3rd game & 4th game
* Matt Engarde and Richard Wellington *SPOILER* for 2nd game — A sequel to this pic done by a friend.
My hands are always a bit wonky-looking in my sketches…
I begin working on Yokaiden book two today! And nope, still don’t know when book one is coming out.
nice people, nice things

I’ve been receiving some very nice e-mails lately. Among them was a link one of my friends sent me, which included this life lesson:
16. Most people are actually nice: This is something I’ve only recently realized. Most people are nice, but not usually to strangers. Once they get to know you and you get to know them, they will most likely seem like very nice people.
It’s true, and it’s good to keep in mind.
Saturnalia cosplay! Here’s some excellent Lan cosplay by envirion at Katsucon 2008 last weekend. (Remember Lan? From that webcomic I once did?) She’s also taken the costume to Anime USA 2007. Awesome work! Here’s a quick pic of Lan I drew and sent to her. I also finally got around to drawing and sending an Ellipsis pic to the girl who cosplayed her.
Some news: Nekocon (Hampton, Virginia) is interested in having me as a guest this year! That means I can pretend to be important and I’ll get to speak at panels and maybe even have a book signing. It’s in early November, which is perfect timing, too — I’ll have finished Book 2 and Book 1 will be out by then. The only issue is the costs. Virginia is… pretty far from where I live. But hey, maybe Del Rey can help out since it’ll be a business trip? We’ll see!
Saturnalia in the middle ages?

While browsing the net a few days ago, I came across someone with the online name “Sethrik.”
This was what immediately came to mind:
site update

I got around to snazzying up the “comics” section of my site at last.
Following the Yokaiden link will take you to this teaser page. I don’t even know what I’m going to put up there yet. Maybe a short summary? Character introductions? Post the first 10 pages as a sample? I’m not sure what I’m allowed to do. But for now, look, there’s the title graphic! I did the English part, and my aunt the Japanese calligraphy teacher did the kanji in the back for me.
I updated the Saturnalia page with a proper notice explaining that the comic is dead for now. I honestly do wonder if I could redo the comic for print one day. If so, I’ll have to have improved my drawing skills a lot, and make several changes to the story itself.
I also put up this thing I made well over a year ago: See how my art in Saturnalia improved over the years.
Now to contemplate what else I should put up on that page. For someone who claims to be primarily a comic artist, I sure don’t do enough comics.

Luki made an adorable Ellipsis at Amecon in August. I give her props for bleaching the hell out of her hair to make it that light. I am going to have to draw her a picture when I’m not so busy.
Is it just me, or is this new wig at Cosworx pretty much exactly Sysreq’s hair without the ear tails (especially in that middle picture)?
bad news, good news, and cosplay

Bad news: Due to new ownership, I have to move out of here sometime within the next two months.
Good news: Today, I received the contract from Del Rey, so I can officially be signed on to the book deal for Yokaiden! I spent all of May working on the script. Right now, I’m re-writing parts of it.
Also good news: I found a five dollar bill in my pocket!
Saturnalia reader Toast did a Feight cosplay at Anime North this weekend. Thank you, Toast, for being both a dedicated fan and a delicious food item!
Feight has been cosplayed before at Ushi-Con, by someone whose name I forget. I can’t remember if I’ve posted this picture before or not, so I’m doing it again!
Anybody else want to cosplay a character from a dead webcomic? Which reminds me, Anime Expo is coming up awfully fast.
I was considering spilling a whole bunch of SATURNALIA SECRETS, but I think I should hold on to them, just in case I ever decide to restart it for publishing purposes. Hey, it could happen!
special donation prize!
Posted in comics, Saturnalia, Uncategorized, tagged donations, Saturnalia on April 8, 2007 |
Wrist-vacation over. Going back to work! I’m aiming to complete all queued commissions and anything else I may need to do this month, as I plan on getting to work on my new comic in May.
I need to update my site’s gallery, but before I do that:
SPECIAL DONATION PRIZE
This prize is “special” because it’s this exact page from Saturnalia; the April Fool’s page of Sysreq’s death scene. You can have a better look at the donation page. I never thought I’d give away a comic page, but I won’t mind parting with this one.
This is for the month of March-April, so people who donated last month will be in the raffle for this. This will likely be the last donation prize I’ll give away in a long time, so anybody is eligible to win.
There’s a 1 cm rip at the bottom of the paper but it’s barely noticable. It got ripped because I draw with such INTENSITY.
Oh crud, the Sun Run is this Sunday. I haven’t been training at all.

* Saturnalia updated with 2 new pages! Since it’s been months since the last update, you should probably start here.
YEARGH BUSY
Posted in comics, Saturnalia, Uncategorized, tagged Saturnalia on February 6, 2007 |
I’ve discovered that the only way to prevent getting burnt out from commissions is to do an equal amount of pictures for myself. Doing nothing but art for other people wears me out eventually, but if I do a lot of fun art on the side, I remain sane. On that note, I have many new pictures that needs to be put up on my site. I’m going to have to start categorizing everything in the commissions gallery.
Saturnalia celebrated its 5th anniversary on February 2nd! Granted, I didn’t update at all for well over a year, and I don’t update on a regular basis anymore, so saying I’ve been working on it for 5 years is a bit of a stretch. But it has been 5 years since it first went online.
My longtime friend and support Mirana did a great picture for me (and a follow-up picture):

I think I’ll put the Saturnalia Flash on hold and do some pages, because I’m starting to miss the comic again.
